Effect of Chlamydial Infection on the Development of Human Embryos

Feradova M., Petrov N., Stefanov R.

After more than 45 years since the birth of the world‘s first in vitro child, in vitro fertilization techniques have led to the birth of millions of artificially conceived children. With the improvement of various methods for hormonal stimulation of the ovaries, for aspiration of oocytes and, above all, in laboratory work, various techniques for culturing germ cells, the success rate of in vitro conception and birth procedures is progressively increasing. One of the main factors that can affect fertilization and the development of a healthy human embryo are infectious agents such as viruses, bacteria and Chlamydia. Chlamydia (Chlamydia trachomatis) is one of the most commonly sexually transmitted infectious bacteria. Chlamydia infection carries a high risk of infertility in men and women, and can cause ectopic pregnancy. In the present clinical study, data on the influence of chlamydial infection on the successful development of human embryos are presented.
