Ethics and Malpractice

The publication ethics and publication malpractice statement of Acta Microbiologica Bulgarica is based on the Code of Conduct and Best Practice Guidelines (https://publicationethics.org).

Content

Acta Microbiologica Bulgarica publishes editorials, original research works, research reports, short communications, reviews, letters to the editor, historical notes, etc. which significantly contribute to the scientific knowledge.

By submitting a paper in AMB, authors confirm that they submit only original work which has not been published or is not under review elsewhere. An original research work/report/short communication should contain all details needed to permit others to replicate the work. All use of others’ work and/or words should be properly cited. “Opinion” works should be clearly stated as such.

Fraudulent or knowingly inaccurate statements are considered as unethical behaviour and are not acceptable.

Manuscript assessment

The submitted articles are initially reviewed by the Editors who accept them for further evaluation or reject them for either of the following reasons:

The papers which are found as appropriate for the journal undergo a single-blind peer review. The review of a paper should be based only on originality of work, its scientific contribution and significance without regard to race, ethnic origin, gender, sexual orientation, citizenship, religious belief or political philosophy.

Reviewers should state their assessment clearly with supporting arguments. The authors will be given the opportunity to respond to the reviewers’ comments, revise and/or re-submit their manuscript to the journal when necessary. Personal criticism is not acceptable.

The final decision on publication or rejection of a manuscript is taken by the Editors based on the reviewers’ evaluation, paper’s significance and its relevance to the journal, language quality.

Confidentiality

All submitted papers are considered as confidential documents. Editors must not disclose any information about the submitted manuscripts to anyone other than the authors, reviewers, other editorial advisors and the publisher. By accepting an article for review, the reviewers declare that they will not disclose to any information in it. Editors, reviewers and advisors should not use privileged information or ideas in the submitted papers for personal advantage or own research except with the written consent of the authors.

Plagiarism and other ethical issues

All use of others’ work and/or words should be properly cited. The following cases are considered as plagiarism and/or other fraudulent practices, and are not acceptable:

Authors who have already published on the same topic are expected to include citation of these papers when relevant, but at the same time to avoid excessive and inappropriate self-citation. Copying or paraphrasing of large parts of own paper (text recycling) should generally be avoided.

Any suspicion of a fraudulent practice will be investigated by the editorial team. In case of detected plagiarism or other unethical publication behaviour, the following sanctions may apply (but will not be limited to):

In case a significant error or inaccuracy in a published paper in AMB is discovered, the Editor will ask the authors to correct the paper or provide evidence of the correctness of the original paper, otherwise they will retract it.

Conflicts of interest

The authors should declare any financial or other substantive conflict of interest that may have influenced the results or interpretation of results in their paper.

All sources of financial support should be disclosed.
